Polar FT80G1 Black Heart Rate Monitor Watch with G1 GPS Sensor Review

Polar FT80G1 Black Heart Rate Monitor Watch with G1 GPS Sensor

First of all, I wish that I had seen a review like this before I bought mine, but as I am the first. I am so disappointed in this watch. What is wrong with it?
1. The display is so dim and it cannot be adjusted. I was certain that the watch was faulty, I contacted the vendor and they sent me a replacement, and that was the same. It is almost impossible to read the menu indoors, outdoors it is a lot better, but still very difficult. When I looked on the Polar website discussion area I noticed a lot of people saying the same thing. How I wish that I could have found this earlier.
2. The GPS seemed not to work, I had to spend hours trying to figure out why not and by chance I found that the GPS (G1) had to be set to mode 2; absolutely no mention of this anywhere. In fact for a high price and supposedly highly functional watch the manual is not worth the paper it comes on.
3. The GPS is very basic, I could not find this out before, but it only measures the speed (at the moment) and distance travelled. It has no waypoints, no coordinates, no software to display routes or maps, etc. OK, I know this is not supposed to be a navigation device, but this information could be obtained with a foot pod at far less expense and no need for a GPS. The Garmins and Timex all have this.
On the positive side, it is a good looking watch, but not much use if you cannot read the display.
I have returned mine now to Trinowfittness - who by the way are very good. I am looking at replacing with a Polar RS800CX or a Garmin of some description.
In summary, don't get this watch if you use it in a gym, don't get it with the GPS option if you only want to keep track on how far you have run. If they fix the display it might have some other useful features. The picture used on the Polar web site shows the display as much brighter than the actual watch itself.
Good luck.

If there's one word to describe people who train seriously for athletics, it's dedication. And if there's one heart rate monitor that's dedicated to helping you achieve maximum workout efficiency, it's the Polar FT80G1. The FT80G1--which comes with a G1 GPS sensor that measures your speed and distance during outdoor sports--starts by checking your daily condition, and then guiding you to the ideal training intensity for your age and fitness level. Knowing your heart rate not only helps you reach your personal fitness goal, but also improves your physical condition in general, as it's vitally important to train at the appropriate intensity level. If you exercise too hard, you may quit before you reach the real benefit, but if you work out too leisurely, you'll struggle to lose weight at all. The FT80G1 helps overcome these problems by encouraging you to map out a complete fitness routine.
The FT80G1's intelligent training computer also helps you work toward achieving your exercise goals in other ways. For example, the watch offers a Polar Star personalized training program that adapts to your workout habits. By giving you weekly training targets and providing constant feedback, the watch guides you without being too strict, helping you reach your goals more efficiently. The watch also displays heart rate info in several ways, including as a percentage of your maximum heart rate, as beats per minute, and within a graphical target zone indicator. And should your heart rate exceed or dip below your target zone, the FT80 will sound an alarm that helps you return to form.
Users will also love the variety of proprietary Polar functions, including ZonePointer, Polar Strength Training, and Polar OwnCal modes. The ZonePointer is an audible and visual feature on the display of your FT80G1 that shows you where your current heart rate sits within your target heart rate zone. The Polar Strength Training mode, meanwhile, helps you optimize your strength training by reading your heart rate and informing you when your body is ready for the next set--an ideal way to optimize your weight training. Finally, the Polar OwnCal mode shows your energy expenditure during one exercise session, as well as your accumulated kilocalories during several exercise sessions. You can also set daily and weekly exercise goals in terms of calorie expenditure, helping you achieve both short-term and long-term goals.
It's the G1 GPS sensor that really helps the FT80G1 stand out in a crowd, however. The sensor, which includes a SIRF-III chipset, not only makes it easy to measure your speed and distance, but also offers support for the WAAS system, thereby improving position accuracy to within 3 meters. The shock-resistant G1 runs for up to 10 hours with a pair of AA batteries, or up to 30 hours with an optional lithium battery.
Other watch features include a built-in fitness test that measures your aerobic fitness at rest in just five minutes; a ZoneLock mode that lets you activate a target zone in the midst of training with the press of a button; a Polar OwnZone mode that provides a customized target zone for individual exercise sessions; an OwnCode mode that prevents crosstalk from other heart rate monitors nearby; a recording mode that tracks your average and maximum heart rate, calorie expenditure, distance, and total exercise time, and then puts it in an exercise file (with 100 total files); water resistance to 50 meters; a 12/24-hour clock with a day/week indicator; a built-in backlight; an alarm with a snooze; a low battery indicator; and a Polar FlowLink connection for transferring data between the FT80G1 and a computer. The watch carries a two-year warranty.
Manufacturer's Warranty The original purchaser of this heart rate monitor is backed by a limited warranty that states that this product that the product will be free from defects in material or workmanship for two years from the date of purchase.
About Polar The first EKG accurate wireless heart rate monitor was invented by Polar back in 1977 as a training tool for the Finnish National Cross Country Ski Team. The concept of "intensity training" by heart rate swept the athletic world in the eighties. By the 1990s, individuals were looking to heart rate monitors not only for performance training needs, but also for achieving everyday fitness goals. Today, the same concept of heart rate training is being used by world-class athletes as well as everyday people trying to lose weight. Polar is the leading brand among consumers, coaches, and personal trainers worldwide and the company is committed to not only producing the best products, but also being the leading educator on the benefits of heart rate based exercise.

Louisville Slugger Limited Edition Omaha Baseball Bat Review

Louisville Slugger Limited Edition Omaha Baseball Bat
Average Reviews:

its an all aluminum bat that has all the right stuff. this bat has awesome weight distrobution and it basically swings itself. its also got tons of pop which means if you make contact the ball's gonna go far. in the past seson i hit a two run homerun over midfield. that means that ball went 375+ yds over that fence. i wouldn't reccomend the bat for kids under 12 though because of the size, other than that swing away!

Designed for high school and college players, the Louisville Slugger limited edition Omaha Silhouette baseball bat is built for durability and performance. From the earliest days of the game, Louisville Slugger has employed the most powerful technology in the bat business. Back in the days of Ty Cobb and Babe Ruth, that meant putting the most skilled craftsmen at the lathe, where they handcrafted bats to the most demanding specifications of the world's most demanding players. Today, it means applying the latest aerospace technology to bat making, delivering high-tech aluminum, hybrid, and composite bats to youth, high school, college, and senior leagues.
Manufactured in the USA, the limited edition CB116 Omaha Silhouette is made of ST+20 aluminum alloy. The material is strong and tough, with the type of performance, feel, and sound that top players demand. Other details include a 2-5/8-inch barrel thickness, a patented Pro Cup end cap, a 31/32-inch tapered handle with a synthetic grip, and a -3 oz. weight ratio without the grip. Available in 31-, 32-, 32.5-, 33-, and 34-inch lengths, the CB116 Omaha Silhouette bat meets all college and high school BESR bat standards. Each Louisville Slugger bat also comes with an industry-best one-year warranty.
About Louisville Slugger In many ways, the rich 120-year history of the Louisville Slugger baseball bat began in the talented hands of 17-year-old John A. "Bud" Hillerich. Bud's father, J.F. Hillerich, owned a woodworking shop in Louisville in the 1880s when Bud began working for him. Legend has it that Bud slipped away from work one afternoon in 1884 to watch the Louisville Eclipse, the town's major league team. After Pete Browning--the Eclipse's star who was mired in a hitting slump--broke his bat, Bud invited him to his father's shop to make a new one. With Browning at his side giving advice, Bud handcrafted a new bat from a long slab of wood. Browning got three hits using the bat the next day. Browning told his teammates, which began a surge of professional ballplayers visiting the Hillerich shop.
Although J.F. Hillerich had little interest in making bats, Bud persisted, eventually registering the name Louisville Slugger with the U.S. patent office in 1894. In the early 1900s, the company was one of the first to use a sports endorsement as a marketing strategy, paying Hall of Famer Honus Wagner to use his name on a bat. By 1923, Louisville Slugger was the selling more bats than any other bat maker in the country, with such famed clients as Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, and Lou Gehrig. In the ensuing years, the company has sold more than 100 million bats, and 60 percent of all Major League players currently use Louisville Sluggers. The company now sells far more than bats, including fielding and batting gloves, helmets, catchers' gear, equipment bags, training aids, and accessories.

Yakima SkyBox Pro 21 Rooftop Cargo Box (Titanium) Review

Yakima SkyBox Pro 21 Rooftop Cargo Box (Titanium)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have had a Yakima cargo box before with 21 cubic feet. This new one has many improvements over the old version. The new version attaches in three places (when you close it) instead of two, and the closing attachments seem to be more secure. After a while the old box would allow rain to come in (so we frequently traveled with luggage in big plastic garbage bags), and this one seems less likely to have this problem. It is great to have the 21 cubic feet, although it would have held slightly more, and bigger objects if it did not have the slight fins on top, but had stayed elevated across the top, instead of having the fin-created dip. The titanium look held up well on the first camping trip.
It is nice to be able to open the box from both sides. This allows you to pack small items a little better from both sides -- if you are maximizing what you can get in, like I did on a recent car camping trip. However, the dual opening mechanism has to have the pivot point in the middle, instead of on one side, so the mouth of the opening does not seem as wide as the old box. The small opening made it a little harder to get some luggage in.
The old box (with its pre-drilled holes) did not have as much flexibility as to where it could attach to the cross bars of the luggage rack. I have a 4-Runner with a hatchback opening. On the old box, I had to elevate the back of the cargo box (about 1 inch with small plywood blocks that I made) to avoid the open hatch back hitting the cargo box (even with the air flow slat removed). On the new box there is much more flexibility on attaching the cargo box to the cross bars of the luggage rack, so I did not have to try to create anything to lift the the back of the new box. Once you have the fastening devices where you want them (after the first use of the cargo box) it is faster to attach the new box (for the second and later trips) than the old box, because the attachment devices on the new box stay connected to the box. But, that the attachment devices stay connected to the box (during storage) also slightly complicates the storage of the box since the four attachment "claws" protrude down from the bottom of the box. So, it does not slide as easily in to where you want to store it, and I did not want the weight of the box sitting on the "claws". But, this is a minor inconvenience.
I dislike having to keep a key in the lock when ever the box is open. I did not want my whole key ring (ignition key and all) out in the open while the box is open. So, I got a small key ring just for the Yakima box. Plus, you cannot leave the new box unlocked; in times past, if I was at a motel and the box was empty, I would leave the box unlocked, so that if someone wanted to try to open it, they could and easily see it had nothing in it to take. Now, they would have to damage the box to open it to see that it had nothing in it.
I paid Amazon the $50 for the delivery because I needed a weekend to make sure that the hatchback of the 4 Runner would not cause a problem when leaving on a trip the next Friday. However, the delivery was delayed for two days sitting in a truck at the Phoenix CEVA office until they had a full truck to come this way. To have a weekend to check out the hatchback problem I had to pick it up at the local CEVA office once it made it to town.. I complained to Amazon, and was readily given a complete refund on the shipping cost.

Family camping trips can be a little cramped, as even the smallest tents, sleeping bags, and backpacks take up a ton of space in the car--and that doesn't account for the coolers, camping chairs, canopies, and family dog. Enter the Yakima SkyBox Pro 21 rooftop cargo box, a huge-but-still-sleek storage container that's deal for toting large amounts of gear on camping or ski trips.Designed to fit crossbar spreads as short as 24 inches, the SkyBox Pro 21 comes with quick-installation mounting hardware that accommodates round, square, and most factory crossbars. More importantly, the Pro 21 offers 21 cubic feet of storage, so you don't have to cram all your gear into the trunk or back seat of your car. Just load up the SkyBox Pro 21 and hit the road. The box even includes an integrated accessory system--with a cargo net and pad--to help you systematically organize, protect, and secure your stuff.
The SkyBox Pro 21 also offers a new lid shape that's easier to grab even if you have particularly clumsy meat hooks. Plus, the lid--which is 50 percent stiffer than lids on previous Yakima cargo boxes--opens on either side, so you don't have to run laps around your vehicle to access your gear. Other details an aerodynamic shape that reduces drag and cuts down on wind noise; a Super Latch Security system that keeps your stuff safely inside; and SKS locks. Boasting an ultra-sleek titanium finish, the SkyBox Pro 21 measures 36 by 18 by 92 inches (W x H x D) and carries a limited lifetime warranty.

Body Solid GDIB46L Olympic Bench with Leg Developer Review

Body Solid GDIB46L Olympic Bench with Leg Developer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This bench is a disappointment. The post for adding weight to the leg station is 1", not the 2" as shown. I negotiated a $50 discount with Amazon to fix that. Also, one of the barbell standards is bent slightly which causes the adjustable post within to bind. I'm going to have to fix that too, by bending the post to match. I expect new products to work out of the box. Save yourself the trouble and avoid this product.

Product arrived quickly and was straightforward to assemble. My kit was missing the bolts for the fenders. I emailed the malone sales department and received the missing bolts 2 days later. Registration at the DMV was easier than I thought it would be - I just provided the included documents and it registered like a new vehicle. Overall a great product - highly recommended.

Diamondback Fitness 510Sr Recumbent Exercise Bike Review

Diamondback Fitness 510Sr Recumbent Exercise Bike
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just bought this bike a few weeks ago to help with recovery from a surgery and I couldn't be happier with it. Fortunately, I also bought it while it was nearly 50% off (Amazon is the best). I got the bike within a week and all the parts were included and in great shape. One of the hinges of the fan attachment had broken off, but a little bit of super glue fixed that in a couple of minutes and it works fine. It took nearly two hours to put the thing together because there are so many parts to this bike, but anybody with patience can do it. Once together, it was clear that the parts were high quality, it looks like it was well made. It's completely silent except for a little whirring when changing difficulty levels. I consider myself to be quite athletic and the programs are definately challanging. There are a lot of programs to choose from and you can set up a personal profile that saves all your information. I think the calorie counter is a little low, but most exercise equipment underestimates the number of calories burned. I'm tall enough (5' 9") that I can see over the console to watch tv, but a shorter person might have trouble with this. A shorter person might also have some trouble with the back rest as it doesn't go low enough for the lower back support to sit squarely in my lower back, but I've found that a cushion remedies this well. I haven't tried all of the features but the heart rate moniter and the fan work great. Overall, I'm extremely happy with this purchase and would highly recommend it.

Ocean Kayak 12-Feet Malibu Two Tandem Sit-On-Top Recreational Kayak Review

Ocean Kayak 12-Feet Malibu Two Tandem Sit-On-Top Recreational Kayak
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We got the right boat no problem and free shipping. Since the boat came to me, I could spend a day on the water instead of going to pick it up though if you have time it is good to support local stores. This boat nests reasonably well with the Malibu Two XL so we can carry both stacked upside down with the big one on top on the factory roof rack of our Rav4. There are carrying handles in the center which are not in the picture that allow a reasonably strong adult to port it overhead. The Seattle Sports kayak seats work fine with it. It is a bit small for a tandem, but can't beat the price.

Compact, lightweight, and easy to maneuver, the Malibu Two is the most popular tandem sit-on-top kayak on the market. The kayak is made of medium-density polyethylene, a virtually indestructible material that's somewhat flexible (so it doesn't crack), but also maintains its stiffness thanks to Ocean Kayak's compound curves. The materials are complemented by a California-form tri-hull design, which includes a long center keel area that encourages boats to track straight when paddling and coasting. The result? A kayak that steers well and is easy to control on the waves regardless of whether you're just starting out or are an experienced paddler. The kayak's unique sit-on-top design, meanwhile, allows you to enter and exit the kayak easily from the shore, dock, or water. In a sit-on-top kayak, you can safely enjoy all the pleasures of kayaking without having to learn difficult self-rescue maneuvers.
The Malibu Two is outfitted with three molded-in seat wells, helping it fit two adults plus a small child or pet. Other construction details include overlapping foot wells that provide a comfortable foot position for just about any size paddler; gear straps that allow you to secure items to the deck of the boat; and self-bailing drain holes in the cockpit that allows water that enters the kayak to immediately flow back out. The Malibu Two, which can be paddled solo or tandem, comes in sunrise and yellow colors.
Specifications:
Max capacity: 375 to 425 pounds
Length: 12 feet
Width: 34 inches
Seat widths: 18.5 inches, 20.25 inches, and 16.25 inches
Weight: 58 pounds
Options: Up to 3 round Gaspachi hatches (bow, center, stern)
